Ricci received initial recognition and praise as a child star for her performance as Wednesday Addams on The Addams Family (1991) and Addams Family Values (1993) and for her performance in the role of Kat Harvey in Casper (1995). Ricci shifted into roles that were more appropriate for adults in The Ice Storm (1997) and then a prestigious performance of The Opposite of Sex 1998 and brought her an award as a Golden Globe nominee for Best Actress. Sleepy Hollow (1999), Monster (2003) as well as several other films that received a positive reception further developed her career.
