She was initially inspired by the shadows that were cast onto grass. After a few weeks she devised a process which did not make the subject on canvas as an unflat image. The selected subject is transformed into a representation of the subject. This happens especially with living objects or those that will perish, such as fruit or humans. Alexa's style of painting exhibits a hazy quality and the only thing left of Alexa Meade is her photograph. Trompe l'oeil is achieved through the combination of two methods of photography and painting. The result is a flattened, two dimensional photograph. Meade often incorporates models painted in the space surrounding them. This allows them to be part of the world she has created. By doing so, Meade has dissolved the boundaries between photography, painting and the performance.
